The Lazy Girl's Guide to Effortless Style

If you look in my closet,  you'll quickly notice that dresses form the basis of my wardrobe.  You might assume that this is because i'm a super girly girl.  Or because I love a good twirling pic. While all of the above are true, I really love dresses because I am LAZY.

I know, fashion bloggers are supposed to be into getting dressed up and all that.  And I mean, yes I like it! But I also really like to keep it simple, and I really like to sleep.  So my secret for looking put together with minimal effort is...you guessed it, dresses!

Psst: sorry if you were expecting a full blown style guide.  This is more like one of my many tricks...I'll post more in the future ;)

Dresses require no matching, no tucking, nothing.  Pretty much I can hit snooze 10x, put on a dress, throw my hair in a bun, add some lipstick and hop into my car for my hour + commute to my day job.  Somehow when I arrive, my clients still think I am oh so polished and worthy of billable hour...HAH fooled ya!

A good sheath dress like the one I'm wearing can do double duty.  I've worn this one in a board meeting by throwing a matching blazer over it (like this one) and the textured fabric also makes it perfect for a weekend by the beach somewhere.  Hopefully I'm jetting off to Mexico soon, which is what I was envisioning when I added this hat (it would also look great with this one!)  They also look great with a neck scarf (like this one!) or a cozy cardigan like this one when it gets cooler. I like to pair sheaths with a strappy heel to amp things up a bit.  I love this pair and this pair too.

What are some of your tricks for getting ready fast in the morning? I need all the sleep I can get so I would love it if you would share them with me!

Styling Midi Skirts for Petites

I love late spring.  My favorite flowers are blooming (hello $6 peonies at trader joe's!), the sun is shining and the light promises that a summer soon to be.

A midi skirt is the perfect transition piece to summer.  Long enough to keep you warm on cooler nights, but swingy and festive...it just feels like summer.  I love the shape of them, but as a petite girl (I'm only 5'2"!), styling them can be a challenge.  I thought I'd share with you how I style a midi to avoid looking stumpy or frumpy.

  1. Wear Heels! The taller the better! Truthfully though, the lines of your heels make more of a difference.  A pointy toe and slim heel lengthens your frame.  You can also try an open toe nude heeled sandal that matches your skin tone, so your legs seem to extend.
  2. Pair a voluminous midi skirt with a top that doesn't have too much fabric.  Here, I chose a crop top (albeit a slightly longer one because i didn't want too much of my winter belly peeking out) that defines my waist.  Good styling is about balance.  Because your skirt is so voluminous, you'll want a top that's the opposite.  If you're wearing a bodycon midi skirt, wear a flowy top!
  3. Make sure your waist is defined.  My skirt had a banded waist, so it helps to give me a nice hourglass shape.  You can add a belt if you feel like it!

I paired my h&m skirt with a sweater crop top from forever 21 (alternative from topshop here). My shoes are by stuart weitzman, and are incredibly comfy for a 4.5 inch heel with no platform and a super skinny heel (affordable version here)!  I'm carrying the chanel le boy bag (on loan from my girl @threadsnbreads) (affordable dupe here) with a pom pom she found online.

I love this skirt! It comes in a floral pattern too, and I'm definitely thinking of getting that one as well.  How else do you like to style your midi skirts? I would love your tips!  Were you holding back from the midi trend just because you're petite? I dare you to try it!
